Adults Home Arts Division

Rules & Regulations:
• Refer to general rules at front of book.
• All exhibitors (junior exhibitors exempt unless entering adult classes) must purchase a $3.00 membership to the Dawson Creek Exhibition
• Each exhibitor will be permitted only one entry per class.
• All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor who shall be a resident of the Peace River area.
• Awards will be determined by most points in respective Sections by the following point system.: 1st-6, 2nd-5, 3rd-3

Notes:
o All exhibits, including junior entries, will be accepted at the Home Arts Building on Wednesday August 9, 2017 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
o Judging will take place Wednesday August 9, 2017, 7:00pm – 9:00pm.
o Exhibits will be open for public viewing Thursday 9:00am to 8:00pm, Friday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sunday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
o Exhibits must be picked up on Sunday August 9, between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm or Monday, August 14 between 9:00am and 4:00pm. Exhibits not picked up will be discarded as per Directors discretion.
o No prize will be awarded if the Judge does not consider the exhibit to be of sufficient merit.

SECTION 35: Open Cooking
Rules & Regulations:
• Outside appearance, inside appearance, texture, flavor, aroma
• Exception for pies and frosted cakes, all baked goods must be entered in a clean plastic bag on a styrofoam tray or a plastic plate.
• Only products from home kitchens are eligible to compete.
Each entry must be made from scratch. No Mixes Please.

Apple Pie Contest , To compete, each person must enter a 2-crust apple pie
Rules & Regulations: Only one entry per person. ~Judging criteria: appearance (crust done, nice color, texture), filling (apples cooked), flavor and aroma.

Best Cook Award

Exhibitor must enter in Home Arts Section 35, a minimum of 1 bread, 1 cake, 1 cookie, & 1 pie entries

Rules & Regulations: Award Winner is chosen by the following point system: 1st – 6 points, 2nd – 5 points, 3rd – 3 points

SECTION 36: Gluten Free Baking

Rules and Regulations:
• Recipe MUST be included

SECTION 37: Canning
Rules & Regulations:
• Recommended requirements for exhibiting home canned foods:
• Processed according to current standards
• Canned within one year – Labeled with DAY/MONTH/YEAR.
• Canning may be opened at judges discretion
• All canned food must be exhibited in a standard clear canning jar not less than 250 ml, with a self sealing, two piece lid.
• Jars must be clean, Prior to entry rings on jars must be loosened. Rings must be new.
• All canning must have seals intact and be labeled with the product name and date of processing .
• Note: One jar constitutes an exhibit
• Meat entries will be judged on appearance only, label with method of processing

SECTION 41: Country Fair Baking Contest
Rules & Regulations:
• All entrants into the contests must submit entries that were made using the Sponsors product.
• A PRODUCT LABEL MUST ACCOMPANY EACH ENTRY, AS PROOF OF PURCHASE.
• PLEASE SUBMIT RECIPE WITH ENTRY.
• All entries will be judged on appearance, taste, texture and creativity of recipe and presentation.
• Decision of the judge(s) will be final.
• ALL FIRST PLACE WINNERS MUST SUBMIT RECIPE, PROOF OF PURCHASE, PHOTOGRAPH AND SIGNED RELEASE FORM GIVING PERMISSION TO THE SPONSORS FOR USE OF THE WINNER’S NAME, RECIPE AND / OR PHOTOGRAPH IN ANY OTHER ADVERTISING OR PUBLICITY WITHOUT PAYMENT.

Winner to be selected from among Fair Competition that includes a minimum of 3 home canning entry categories. Best of Show winner is fair’s “BEST HOME CANNER” based on: highest accumulated points (fair decides point system) OR Judge’s choice of Best Over-all Home Canning Entry selected from among qualifiers

Bernardin Jam/Jelly Award

Qualifiers must enter product(s) prepared with a BERNARDIN Fruit Pectin (dry or liquid). Entry must be submitted with proof-of-purchase (pkg. or UPC) (note: CERTO is not a Bernardin product). Fair need not have a special competition class for this prize, but winner must meet criteria stated above.
